چکیده

 A program of single frequency seabed classification using QTC VIEW with two separate frequencies has affirmed the effectiveness of this technology. Adding seabed classification to routine bathymetric surveys constitutes an efficient value-added solution to acquisition of needed baseline data for the enforcement of Marine Protected Area legislation and for fisheries habitat management. A local seabed classification test area was thoroughly groundtruthed with a variety of methods. Integration of the two separate frequencies at an intermediate stage of processing achieved near-optimal classification over varied geology. Dual frequency processing was well correlated with ground truth data.

Evaluating the Effects of Dual Frequency Sonication Parameters on Acoustic Cavitation by Chemical Dosimeter Using Iodide

Background and Aims: Production of acoustic cavitation by sonication has been recently recommended as a targeted treatment. The experimental results from studies indicate that the activity of cavitation generated by bi- or multi-frequency ultrasound irradiation is higher than that caused by single frequency irradiation. In this study, effects dual (1 MHz and 40 kHz) and single frequency soni...

Settings of Genetic Programming toward the Improvement of Acoustic Classification Performance for Different Seafloor Conditions

This is the second examination of the Genetic Programming (GP) for classification of different seafloor habitats using acoustic backscatter. The main purpose of this work is to study how GP settings affect the classification capability. The result of this study showed that the acoustic classification capability with respect to recognition of different seafloor habitats can be further enhanced b...

Applying Discriminate Analysis to Characterise Shallow Rocky Reef Habitat

A major goal of seafloor habitat mapping is to provide techniques that predict the distribution of species from physical and biotic parameters that define where species live. An area of seafloor comprising of rocky reef and sand habitats was surveyed with both a single beam acoustic ground discrimination system (AGDS) and sidescan sonar. Comparisons are made between predicted classes assessed f...

Acoustic seabed classification methodology: a user’s statistical comparison

Methods for seabed classification using echosounder data have been available for about 10 years. In this paper, we examine aspects of the statistical processing used by the QTC VIEW acoustic bottom classification system, which characterises bottom types through the shape of the first echo. We focused our investigation on 5 questions: (1) How to filter errors in input data? (2) How is principal ...

Integration of Acoustic Classification into Hydrographic Survey Programmes

Acoustic seabed classification technologies measure acoustic diversity in the seafloor and surficial substrate. This diversity is generally well correlated with both geology and those benthic species which are keyed to geologic and biotic components of the seafloor. Remote acoustic seabed classification has reached a level of maturity and acceptance in the ocean community such that it should be...
